Mar 12, 2021 Season 1 Episode 15

Monica's passion for organic, nontoxic, plant-based beauty products originated after research around the harmful effects that chemicals have on our overall health. After watching my mom battle cancer on 2 separate instances, she knew there was more to being “healthy” than just exercise and diet. And the more that she learned about ingredients that go into day to day products, the more she became aware of the link that exists between harmful chemicals and cancer. She began creating my own beauty products using organic ingredients from superfoods and soon Plant Based Beauty was born.

She left her fulltime corporate job at the end of 2019 to focus fully on Plant Based Beauty; right before the pandemic hit in March of 2020. The last year has been full of trial and error but so many learnings to keep a newly founded company growing during economically challenging times. In November of 2020, she co-founded the Chicago Makers Pop Up Shop; a retail store in Chicago which features 30 local Chicago small businesses. This 2 month pop up went so well that she opened a more permanent location for the full year of 2021. Helping small businesses grow and creating a community of small businesses in Chicago has been an amazing opportunity and a new passion of hers!

In this episode, we talk about clean skincare and toxic ingredients to look out for, holistic health, Monica's journey to founding her brand and how her interests changed as her Instagram evolved, going inward through journaling, doing what brings you join, finding passion, overcoming anxiety by dissecting your worst case scenario, universal synchronicities, and so much more! Stay tuned for a part 2 when we bring Monica back along with her co-founder of the Chicago Maker's Pop-up Shop.
